Ellfaerran Diaries Character List: Book II
Alberon: Katara’s ward and distant cousin, later her sorcerer’s aide.
Arra: The Ellfs’ Absent Goddess of Wisdom, Sorcery, and the Moon. Unicorns, Silver and Amethysts are all sacred to her. She is the divine Sponsor of Katara and Alberon and Queen of the Absent Gods. She is also the eldest daughter of Mael.
Badb: A goddess from the Tuatha De Danann and one of Morrigan’s triplet sisters. Badb’s name means “crow” in Gaelic, very apropos as Morrigan and her sisters all take the form of either Crows or Ravens when they want to move about unseen. A warrior goddess, Badb creates either courage or extreme cowardice in the men engaged in battle as she flies over them.
Balor: Demon King of the Fomorii until he hands control to another, possibly his son, after his fears of a grandson cause him to lock up his daughter Ethlinn. A Sea Demon worshipped by the Firbolg Celts, Balor possessed only one leg and one massive eye with a lid so heavy it had to be raised for him by servants. The gaze of that eye was so dreadful it slew all it gazed upon in demonic fire.
Balldaer: Hollae’s older brother. He is half Ellf and Half Valkyrie.
Blathnat: Dana’s druid priestess and a suitor of Llaeron.
Bllerra: The Ellfs’ Absent Goddess of the Earth. She is the divine sponsor of King Ellfstane. Sapphire’s, Lapis Lazuli, Blue Stone, Hares and Rabbits are all sacred to her.
Bllerrabon: King of the Ellfs’ Absent Gods. Twin brother of Bllerra and Husband of Arra, Bllerrabon is the Dragon God of the Sun and Patience. Gold, Citrines and Amber are all sacred to him. He is the divine sponsor of Epaen.
Bres: Half Fomorii King of the Tuatha De Danann who rules after Nuada lost his hand. Bres marries Brigid to seize the throne before Midir, son of Dagda, can claim it. Deposed after insulting a Bard, Bres and his mother flee to his Fomor father and start the second battle of Magh Tuireadh in which Balor is felled by his own grandson’s hand.
Brigid: Daughter of Dana Anu, Supreme Queen and Mother of the Tuatha De Danann. Goddess of Healing and Fertility, Brigid was just as deceived about her husband as the rest of the De Danann.
Caraell: Ellfstane’s disinherited older brother and a traitor to the Ellf Nation. Caraell slew his own father, Caraedon, to claim the Ellf Crown only to learn that Caraedon had already discovered Caraell’s treachery and bequeathed his throne to Ellfstane prior to his death. Caraell became a vagabond informant of the Fomors after that.
Cian: One of the younger sons of Dian Cecht, Cian was slain by Balor after fathering Lugh.
Cumhaill: Druid priest to Dagda. Dies prior to the final battle between the De Danann and the Fomors for the isles.
Dagda: Eldest son of Dana, Dagda ruled the Tuatha De Danann for a brief time before handing control over to Nuada. Dagda’s vain son Midir did not agree with his father’s decision. Dagda is obsessed with finding the hidden Ellfs, especially their king.
Dana Anu: Supreme Queen and Mother of the Tuatha De Danann, a group of Celtic gods originally from Eastern Europe. The Danube River is named for her and her taste in blue gowns. Dana is obsessed with High Sorcerer Llaeron of the Ellfs. Slowly losing power over her divine children and the Picts who follow them as humanity turns to male deities, Dana is not prepared to meet with extraterrestrial opposition to her plans for Llaeron and the Ellfs.
Dian Cecht: The De Danann god who made Nuada’s silver hand. Dian Cecht is a god of Smithcraft and Healing. His skill at smithcraft appears in several of his sons, but only his daughter and his son Miach possess his ability to heal.
Ellfstane: King of the Ellfs and High Sorcerer of Bllerra. Ellfstane created the hidden underground realm of Ellse Where after his father and people were betrayed by his brother, Caraell.
Epaen: The only surviving member of the Ellfs’ Emerald Isle aristocracy. Epaen was disinherited by his father after refusing to back his family’s proposed rebellion against the Ellf King Caraedon. As a result he was sent away to become an ambassador’s aide, finally ending up in Llaeron’s Embassy during the Firbolg Invasion. Secondary Sorcerer to Bllerrabon, Epaen later become’s Hollae’s interpreter and Sorcerer’s Aide. Epaen is the only direct descendent of Ancient Ellfaera in the surviving Ellf Nation and is distantly related to Surraell.
Eriu: a Tuatha De Danann goddess born on the Emerald Isle. She and her sisters, Banba and Fotla, ask the Sons of Mil to name the isle after one of them.
Ettania: Secondary Sorceress of Llaella. Ettania is the baby sister of Llaeron and Fiancée of Epaen.
Graephlaer: The Ellf’s Ancient Gryphon God of Witchcraft and Courage. Father of the twins Bllerra and Bllerrabon of the Absent Gods, Graephlaer has more than a passing interest in the fates of Hollae and Epaen; for both of whom he intends to take over divine sponsorship. Gryphons, Hippogryphs, Rubies and Golden Topaz are Sacred to him.
Haerryll: A Norse/Ellf half breed from the Shetland Islands. Haerryll looks enough like a Celt to pass as one and works as Llaeron’s spy among the Tuatha de Danann. His obsession on Llaeron is as strong as Morrigan and Dana’s. He is also obsessed with Ettania and Hollae.
Hollae: High Sorceress of Sellae. Like her brother Balldaer, Hollae is half Ellf and half Valkyrie. They were both born on what are now the Orkney Islands. Their father is duke of not only that group of small isles, but also what are now the Shetland and Faroe Islands.
Ith: A Milesian Celt who comes to the Jewelled Isles out of curiosity and is slain at the order of Midir.
Jaerryll: Ellfstane’s butler. Jaerryll despises Katara, primarily as he thinks he controls the young king and sees Katara as his main competition in that regard.
Katara: High Sorceress of Arra and head of the Conclave of High Sorcerers. Katara is the cousin of Hollae and Balldaer and guardian of Alberon, her third cousin twice removed. Katara is both arrogant and a bit of a martinet in her role as Advisor to the King of the Ellfs, but hides a deep-seated inferiority complex under her arrogance that makes her mental state a bit fragile. She hates Jaerryll and Llaeron as she is jealous of her power over Ellfstane, not realizing that it is the king who is really manipulating her.
Lir: An ill-fated De Danann whose second marriage caused severe affliction to his children.
Llaella: Ellf’s Absent Goddess of the Coloured Stones and daughter of the Ancient God Mael of Ellfaera, Llaella is unfortunately in love with her current High Sorcerer. She is also the youngest sister of Arra. Pink Tourmalines, Rhodonite, Cats and Alexandrite are all sacred to her.
Llaeron: High Sorcerer of Llaella and former Ambassador to the Tuatha De Danann. Llaeron is the object of both Dana and Morrigan’s obsessions with finding the Ellfs. A highly intellectual man with a genius for languages and mathematics as well as politics Llaeron is continually under-rated by his countrymen and enemies because of his tendency to dandyism. Only Ellfstane and Epaen recognize it as the disguise it truly is.
Lugh: Tuatha De Danann Sun God and illegitimate child of Cian and the Fomorii demoness Ethlinn. Lugh is the grandson of Balor and the only being capable of killing the giant Fomor.
Macha: One of Morrigan’s triplet sisters. Macha was married to the Scythian warrior Nemed. Her province was battle fervor.
Mael: Ancient God of Death and Seers’ Sight from Ellfaera. Father of Arra, Llaella and Sellae, Mael’s existence was forgotten by the Ellfs as he never left the galaxy that housed Ellfaera when it was abandoned by his kin.
Manannan Mac Lir: The Tuatha De Danann God of the Waves. Manannan is one of the cursed offspring of the Sea God Lir. Manannan eventually becomes the foster-father of Lugh after Balor kills Lugh and thinks he’s killed Ethlinn.
Miach: Dian Cecht’s oldest son. Miach inherited his father’s healing powers to such an extent that Hollae could teach him how to truly replace Nuada’s lost hand.
Midir: Dagda’s vain son. Midir finally achieves his aim to become King of the Tuatha De Danann just before the arrival of Ith, but it is an uneasy rule. He loses his kingship to his father after the mess he makes by slaying Ith when he did not like the way the Milesian assured him of his right to rule.
Morrigan Morrigu: Tuatha De Danann Goddess of Death on the Battlefield, Queen of Ghosts and Shadows and Mistress of Nightmares. A powerful and lascivious goddess of war and death, Morrigan was known to cause the deaths of any men who refused her advances, including the Ulster Hero Cuchulainn.
Nemain: The third of Morrigan’s Triplet Sisters. Nemain’s name means “dreadful” or “Venomous” depending on the area of Ireland where her name is spoken. Wife of Nuada, Nemain is the Wailer who washes the garments of those who will be slain in battle as they ride past her on their way to war. She was the original Banshee of Irish Legend.

His throne was given to him by Dagda when that giant god went forth to hunt both Fomors and Ellfs, for different reasons. He lost his crown when his hand was cut off in the first battle of Magh Tuireadh. He regains the crown when Miach returns him to physical perfection.
Saellar: Ellfs’ Absent Squirrel God of the Forest and Trees. Saellar was the divine sponsor of Katara’s deceased father Hyllaell. Saellar is married to Sellae. Jade, Peridot, and red squirrels are sacred to him.
Sellae: Absent Ellf Goddess of the White-Capped Waters. Sellae is Hollae’s divine Sponsor for the time being. A happy deity prone to laughter Sellae is extremely fond of her High Sorceress and grieves for the time when she must give up her sponsorship. Porpoises, Seals, Pearls, and Aquamarines are all sacred to her.
Surraell: High Sorcerer of Bllerra from Ancient Ellfaera; believed dead by most of the Absent Gods, but seems very much alive to Dana.
